David Gomez lives with his wife, Ilda Lopez, and 2 sons in Las Cochitas. Ilda helps him run their 3-hectare farm, El Trapiche, and so does one of their sons. David tells us that it’s hard to convince younger folks to stick to coffee. “They want the easy life in the city!” he says. Like many others in the region, David has stories about previously growing poppy plants, back when it was the only product they could sell. After unfortunately losing his father to violence associated with the drug trade, David says that coffee has saved his family’s lives. Finding young producers in Nariño has become increasingly difficult, and David is a beacon of hope for the future of his region.
Colombia is the second largest producer of Arabica coffee. Quality can range from classic breakfast blend coffees to exotic and wild microlots
